So let me tell you a little about myself. I live with my partner of 15 years and have four children and three grandchildren.
My life today is a million miles away from how I started married life as a 19-year-old. I was with a man I thought I loved but I never stopped to wonder if he felt the same about me.
We didn’t have the fairytale wedding; in fact, the opposite was true. And before the day was over my new husband had given me a black eye. That was the start of 13 years of domestic violence. Back then there was nowhere to go for help but, nowadays, society takes a different attitude to domestic violence and help is available.
After I left him, I realised I had to get some skills to turn my life around. I did a computer course, loved it, and I just kept on learning.
I went on to higher education and gained a high qualification which helped me land my first serious job working for Valpak in London. As a teen I had often visualised working in a London office block, and there I was, doing just that.
My career took many twists and turns and I eventually ended up in advertising. I have spent the past 12 years running my own marketing agency. Now it’s all change again and I’m aiming to become a mid-life experience influencer.
I hope you can relate to my experiences; perhaps they will inspire you.
